What it does
It is a surge protector for PoE network cables that uses a gas discharge tube (GDT) to divert a voltage spike before it reaches the camera or the switch. It goes inline on the network cable with RJ45 connectors and passes the signal at 1000 Mbps without slowing the network.
It is meant for indoor use: it goes in the equipment room or next to the recorder, on the end of the cable that comes from a camera. It is a small part you install once, and it makes sense wherever the cable goes outdoors or runs several meters before reaching the switch.
