Why we recommend it

What it does

It is a surge protector for the 120 V power line, built to be mounted outdoors. It protects the power supply, the recorder or any equipment fed from that line by absorbing the surge before it gets there. It comes in a NEMA 4X enclosure made to live out in the weather.

It connects in parallel to the line (approved for circuits with a breaker up to 20 A) and withstands surges of up to 50,000 A. A diagnostic LED tells you at a glance whether the protector is still working, with no need to open it or measure anything. It makes sense on poles, rooftops and guard booths where equipment is powered from outside and a surge on the power line could take down every camera on site.
