Why we recommend it

What it does for you

The recorder is the heart of an IP camera system: this is where the video is stored and where you review it. This Hikvision NVR takes up to 32 cameras of up to 12 MP each. It has 16 PoE+ ports, so 16 of those cameras connect with a single network cable that carries both power and video, with no power outlets needed next to each camera.

Its extended PoE mode allows Hikvision cameras 200–300 meters from the recorder depending on the model (300 m with series 2, 3 and 7), handy on large grounds or warehouses. It offers face recognition (up to 2 channels with 4 MP cameras) or AcuSense, which tells people and vehicles apart to alert you only when it matters; you pick one mode or the other. It has two drive bays and a 4K HDMI output to watch the cameras on a monitor or TV at full definition.

Build your system

What you need to make it work

The recorder ships without a hard drive: it needs a surveillance drive to store video. This is what we recommend to complete the installation.
